Interview With Zidane (My inspiration to do this project)
Internet Research (2)
Show respect for the opponent at all times. The opponents should be treated as guests; greeted cordially on arriving; given the best accommodations; and accorded the tolerance, honesty, and generosity which all human beings deserve. A time of fellowship with both teams and a challenge from God's Word would be appropriate for Christian schools.
Show respect for the officials. Good sportsmanship implies the willingness to accept and abide by the decisions of the officials. To criticize the officials is to teach young people to disregard the "authority principle." Certainly the Christian high school should hire only competent officials who have nothing to do with the host school or church.
Know, understand, and appreciate the rules of the contest. A familiarity with the current rules of the game and the recognition of their necessity for a fair contest are essential. Good sportsmanship suggests the importance of conforming to the spirit as well as the letter of the rules.
Maintain self-control at all times. A prerequisite of good sportsmanship is understanding that rational behavior and personal testimony are more important than the desire to win. Good sportsmanship is concerned with the behavior of all involved in the game (coach, players, cheerleaders, teachers, principal, pastor, parents, and other spectators). It has been suggested that some pastors come to the game, greet folks, and then go home so that they don't blow it with their testimony.
Recognize and appreciate skill in performance, regardless of affiliation. Applause for an opponents good performance is a demonstration of generosity and good will that should not be looked on as treason. The ability to recognize quality in performance and the willingness to acknowledge it without regard to team membership is one of the most highly commendable gestures of good sportsmanship.

Internet research
Article from Kidshealth:
"Emily was crying by the time the softball game ended. It wasn't because her team had lost. It wasn't because she was unhappy about her own playing. It wasn't even because of anything the other team had said or done. Emily's tears came after her dad yelled at her — in front of all her teammates — for missing the fly ball that could have saved the game. Emily is just 8 years old.
If your child has ever participated in a sport, you've undoubtedly met people like Emily's dad, parents who behave inappropriately and upset their kids. These parents get so wrapped up in winning and losing or how well their own kids perform that they lose sight of what's really important. They forget that one of the most important goals of kids' sports is to promote a sense of good sportsmanship." (http://kidshealth.org/parent/emotions/behavior/sportsmanship.html#, (2008, Steve Sanders)
This article shows how it is not only just player who show unsportsmanlike behaviour but also parents. This also shows how some people don't know their priorities because they are so focused on them, their children or their teammates winning that they don't take control of their emotions and shout them out loud. It is exactly this how children grow up not knowing what is important in sports competitions because they are surrounded by negative influences for example parents or their teammates shouting at them. This negative influence will grow on them and then they won't understand what is appropriate and inappropriate anymore.

results from my interview(2)
If you were in charge of sports what would you do to stop cheating and unsportsmanlike behavior or wouldn't you stop it?
I would let the rules stay the same because it is all part of the game. Cheating, unfairness and unsportsmanlike behavior is all part of football and other games. In my opinion it's what makes the game interesting and each player different. So no, I would not stop any of it.
What kind of personality/traits do you think many people who don't play by the rules have in common? Do you have any ideas why you think these people would do these things?
In my opinion anyone, it is not down to traits or characteristics. You cannot know what kind of player will react like in each situation. Many people are too passionate and throw themselves into the game half blind not knowing the consequence, in other words they sometimes don't think using their head because the player cannot handle the situation they are in.
Have you ever played unfair and not by the rules? If yes why?
I have played quiet often not following the rules but have always been honest. To get things done in sport sometimes you have to take risks and sometimes they go wrong but I have always tried to control myself on the field and tried to do what if the best for my team even if it means having to take the risk of getting a yellow card for example.
Do you play with your emotion of the field or whenever you play a competitive sport? If so, Why?
Yes I play with my emotion all the time, I try and control them so they don't get the better of me and get me sent off but in my opinion football and any other sport should be played with emotions otherwise there is no passion.
Results for my Interviews(1)
If you were in charge of sports what would you do to stop cheating and unsportsmanlike behavior or wouldn't you stop it?
If I was in charge of stopping people cheating and playing unfair I would change the current rules of football and basketball to a no tolerance rule so that anyone who acts unsportsmanlike on the field by using swearing or abusing other players will get sent off immediately and be suspended for 1 game, If this happens for the third time i think they shouldn't be able to play again for that team.
What kind of personality/traits do you think many people who don't play by the rules have in common? Do you have any ideas why you think these people would do these things?
I think people who cannot play professionally on the field and people who cannot control their emotions are the sort of people who are most likely to get sent off for playing unfair and not being respectful.
Have you ever played unfair and not by the rules? If yes why?
I have never played unfair in professional games but have shown unsportsmanlike behavior once in basketball in the knockout stage when there was a lot of pressure on me to perform but I didn't perform like I wanted to so I lost control of myself.
Do you play with your emotion of the field or whenever you play a competitive sport? If so, Why?
I do play with my emotions in a positive way so I get the best out of them lifting my spirit and encouraging me to play better, I play with emotions but don't let them take control of my actions which will make me take wrong decisions.

Have you ever played unfair and not by the rules? If yes why?
Do you play with your emotion of the field or whenever you play a competitive sport? If so, Why?
These are the main questions I plan to ask and how they are formatted.
Planning my research
1. Interview.
2. Online newspapers.
3. Information websites.
4. Magazines and television
5. Questionnaire.
Interview- I plan to interview at least 2 people who have some experience about football, sportsmanship and teamwork. This doesn't all have to be in the category of football but can be other sports like basketball, hockey or tennis. The format and the questions I plan to ask will be in my next post.
Internet Newspapers- There are many published newspapers which are stored online about events which happend in football I will use this to find out what and why many people do not show much respect on the football field. I can also use online newspapers to find other information.
Information Websites- This is were most of my research will come from especially background research as it has many specific categories which contain just the right information I am looking for. I plan to get general information about sportsmanship and teamwork in sports not just football.
magazines and television- This source of information is most likely to contain advantages of playing well as a team but also the benefits of playing fair. Magazines also contain a lot of 3rd person opinions on subjects like these and many debates are stages in forums in magazines but also online forums can give me information and opinions about fair play.
Questionnaire- This source of information is for the opinion of the masses and what they think about my topic I will compare my opinion to the results of what other people think which will influence what I am going to say while I am hosting the tournament. The format of the questionnaire will be seen in the next post.
Proposal
My goals are to teach the importance of playing fairly and respectively, it has some to my attention that a lot of sports these days are contact sports, I have experienced this first hand because I myself play football for many years. But this isn't the reason why I see a lot of people play unfair and without respect. I plan to research the reasons behind the mentality of cheating and unsportsmanlike behavior. My goal is to teach children about how to play fair and have respect for yourself, your opponent, the officials and others. My main audience are children from grade 5-8. Because during this time I myself have learned a lot about sportsmanship and thought I could teach this age group the best. I plan to also teach them how to recognize unsportsmanlike behavior and what to do about it when they see someone doing it. Not only this but seeing that my subject is focused on football i plan to teach them the official rules so they know what to expect from a game of football. Teaching my audience about the advantages of sportsmanship behavior and playing well as a team also can influence the way people play.
What is the purpose of this project?
The purpose is to try and eliminate cheating and encourage good behavior on the field. Also for my own experience this is a good opportunity for myself as I hope to get good skills like communicating and organizing skills out of this project.
What inspired you to do this project?
When I saw the final of the 2006 World Cup between France and Italy, the world renown red card for French Zinedine Zidane head butting Italian Marco Materazzi in the chest. The action shocked the world but my inspiration only came after the game when Zidane was talking to the press about how he felt ashamed of himself and wants no child to look up to his actions that evening of 9th July 2006. This interview was the major inspiration of my project.
Which AoI will it focus on?
My project will focus on health and social education because I plan to teach children about the social aspects of football which are mostly teamwork and sportsmanship.
How will this AoI shape the personal project?
It will shape my personal project by not focusing on the football itself but the social aspects of this game. It will also greatly influence what my final product is and how I will execute this World Cup tournament
Why is this area fundamental to your project?
This area is fundamental to my project because It will decide what I want to teach the younger children about football, instead of focusing on teaching them about football skills and tactics I will focus on the social and fairness of football.

For my personal project I want to organize a football world cup tournament. With the recent 2010 South Africa world cup being hosted I want to promote football and playing safely. Football has been around for a very long time. The reason why I’m doing this project is because football is very important to my lifestyle and me; football is also one of my greatest passions. Football has been around since mid 19th century and the rules that are still used today were set by Trinity College in Cambridge. Influence also came from Sheffield that played by their own rules, The FA (Football Association) that was set up in 1863 started absorbing the rules by which Sheffield played. The world cup which is now being hosted in South Africa started 80 years ago in 1930 when the 1st world cup event was being held. Only in 1942 and 1946 was the World Cup not hosted because of the 2nd World War. Brazil is currently the most consecutive champion winning 5 times so far. Also the next world cup in 2014 will also be held in Brazil.
My Area of Interaction will be Health and Social. I will not be focusing on the actual football itself, I will be focusing on the benefits of football and the rules, this is how my Area of Interaction will shape my Personal Project by focusing on the social and health aspect of football, for my Personal Project I want to teach people how to play football properly, not just by the rules but also how to be respectful to each other and what to do and not to do in certain situations. I will also be focusing on the health benefits of football, looking at how football is good for the body. Another major part of my project is how people get together during the World Cup or any other football games even though they might not know each other or don’t have very good relationships with each other. I want to teach this via a small World Cup tournament were teams get awarded extra points for respectful behavior and good sportsmanship.
The way I plan to reach this target or aim is by putting posters around the school so people can sign up, this will be for free because I won’t need to collect any money for anything because I can make use of the P.E equipment so I won’t need to buy anything for the tournament. This tournament will be held after school with the 1st day being held for qualification rounds and the 2nd day for quarter and semi final and after the final, the winner will get a prize and the team with the best sportsmanship will get the sportsmanship reward, even if they didn’t qualify, I will teach the students before the tournament starts about sportsmanship so they can show what they learned in the games. I will provide the prizes myself. The way I plan to teach people about the rules and behavior of how to play football will be through a video I will make along with posters and a power point, I also plan to talk the students and make examples and situations in the game where students will have to make the right choice on what to do.

My passion lies in sports and football and for my personal project i want to organise a football tournament or a penalty shoot out to make people aware of how important it is to be healthy and how football affects the world. my major area of interactions will be health and social. I choose this project because many children are becoming less active and i want to show people the consequences of becoming less active and not doing enough sports .This area is fundamental to my project because health and social education is about educating how to be healthy, social and civil civilians. My inspiration came from the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. Many organisation are helping developing countries and this is one of the first times the World Cup is not hosted in Europe, this brings the community of the world together.

My main direction will be towards Health and Social Education because I want to organize a football tournament to make people aware of how important it is to be healthy and live a balanced lifestyle.

This blog is all about my Personal Project. March 4th 2010
This blog is to record my Personal Project process from beginning to end. To keep a diary about all the things I am going to do to achieve my final product. And so I can allow to communicate with my supervisor. Today the MYP (Middle Years Programme) Coordinator came into our homeroom lesson to talk to us about the Personal Project. Everyone was introduced to The Personal Project and shown some examples of what other students in PSI did over the last few years. When doing the Personal Project, you can choose any subject of your choice. This is one of the main reasons why I am so excited to start this Project because I can choose what I am passionate, about making it my very own project. Everyone was asked to create a blog today so we can get used to the website we are using and to start recording our progress.
